Family and friends!
There are weeks on the mission that sometimes don't look the best on paper but this week was one of my most successful weeks so far. It has been a good experience having Elder C--- as my companion. We do not have the same ideas on the methods of doing missionary work. There are quite a few things he likes to do that I am uncomfortable doing. It has been interesting, enlightening, and humbling as I have had to change many things in order for my companion to feel comfortable, satisfied and happy. He believes the way he does missionary work is the correct way and is very passionate about it. This has given me quite a lot of stress. The main reason being that my 4 previous companions never had a problem with the way I did missionary work. Up to this point on my mission I have never had a companion dislike the way I have acted. This has been very hard for me but this week I did an experiment. I promised him I would do everything I could to try to do missionary work in the way he prefers. As the contention of our companionship has gone down we have started to see some miracles happen. I have yet to become personally satisfied or incredibly happy about the new way of doing things but I am willing to sacrifice in order to be more unified with my companion and continue to see miracles.
The biggest miracle we saw happened on our last house we tracted into last night. we rang the doorbell and a woman answered. Very enthusiastically she told us how her friend and her had always wanted to attend a Mormon church but were always to embarrassed to ask the missionaries about it. She also said that when she has attended other churches in the past she has always had this feeling that there is someone caring for her. The feeling would make her cry and feel so good. We promised her that if she would come to church on Sunday she would definitely feel that feeling again and that we could teach her how to have that feeling with her constantly. She was so happy and told us how she had a Mormon friend in America that she loved and respected very much. She promised she'd come to church on Sunday and bring her friend. She gave us her phone number and said we were welcome to come back and teach her the gospel.
We saw another miracle from working with members as well. We have a young family we have been working with for a while but they have never come to church. A family in our ward are acquaintances with the family(the father is a less active) and they offered to take some shuijiao 水餃 over to there house. They went and visited them and had a great chat with them. They also invited them to church on Sunday. On Saturday night we invited the family in our ward to call and invite them again so that they would remember. They ended up coming to church! We were so excited. They have a 3 month old baby who was the center of attention. I feel the family really received a lot of care and that they had a wonderful first experience in church together as a new family. We did find out that the mom smokes which is pretty sad because they have a new baby but we hope we will be able to help her see how this gospel can help us overcome any weaknesses.
English class is also seeing much success. We had 8 new students and over 40 people on class on Wednesday. There were quite a few students who had a ton of interest in learning about the gospel and we are in the process of setting them up. We are going to start seeing some great miracles from English class.
We should be having a baptism in a couple of weeks. An investigator the sisters have given us guomeiyun 郭美雲 is in the process of praying about a sooner baptismal date than her baptismal date in march. We have asked her to be baptized on the 8th. She already sings in the choir, participates in church, follows the commandments, etc. We are excited to see her progress to this next great blessing in her life. Her son will most likely soon follow her as well.
The work is progressing and I'm learning new things everyday. I will continue to 加油 until the work is done.
Love,
Elder Meeks
