1/5/2014 - Surprise Change of Companions

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We had a great lesson with H-- B-- C--- this week. He has a hard time understanding us when we speak Chinese and so we decided to take a different approach and really discussed what we would teach him with the Bishop (who was our Peike) before the lesson. The Bishop was so great at helping us explain some points of doctrine that might have been harder for him to understand coming from us. He used some great biyu's to help him understand what was going on. We really focused on repentance and baptism and because of the biyu Bishop gave I really believe he understood it. We are having trouble getting permission from his parents to attend church and be baptized but we will keep helping him learn more about the gospel and develop his testimony.

We are meeting with a less-active and his wife who is not a member. They are doing well but did not come to church on Sunday which was pretty sad but I hope we can keep getting the ward more involved in their situation as well. They are 19 and 22 years old and do not really know what they are doing with their little baby. They have a lot of potential blessings waiting for them in the church.

Elder Chalmers is a great missionary and I know that he has brought a special Spirit to Xinban that will bring us much success. In the past few days Elder Chalmers and I have found some great potentials. He is a really good finder and is so willing to talk to everybody. He is an Elder who will be obedient no matter what and I appreciate that. It is always easier to be obedient when there is a person who has that desire even more than you do. He is and will become a great missionary.

We have been focusing on meeting with Less Active Melchizedek priesthood holders and we had two come to church on Sunday which was great. I hope we can continue to inspire the ward to reach out to them and help them even more than they are right now. I think with an extra push we could have some fully active, tithing paying, priesthood holders come back to church in the near future.

I have been diligently reading the Old Testament because I feel like I need to become more familiar with it and really understand it. It is also God's word. I just finished Leviticus today which was pretty hard to get through. Jixu jiayou..

Overall I am doing great. I am progressing in the gospel and am less frequently dwelling on things that are not mission related. I am really trying to delve into my missionary purpose and just forget about everything else and go to work. We are having success and will soon see even more success through our faith and the Lord's help.

This one is kind of short and it is basically just the letter I sent to my mission president sorry about that. I just don't have enough time to do it all anymore!!!!!!! HAHA Love you all and Happy New Year. Make some cool goals and go eat some buffalo wild wings and beto's for me.

Love

Elder Meeks
