Hey ya'll!
We had a really awesome week this week! The best part being that I am now companions with Elder McKay. We get along way to well and we have a lot in common. We both have a huge desire to help our zone continue to grow. We think that our zone can do much better than it is right now and we are in the process of making some goals and plans to make it happen.
We were able to meet with all four of our progressing investigators more than once this week. That was a really cool miracle. Because it is rare that something like that happens. They all are so close to making that final commitment. We are really focusing on helping them understand the gospel and how it can literally change our lives. I really believe the only way to change our bad habits or negative thoughts is by making correct choices. In 3 Nep 24, I believe, it talks about tithing but I feel like the principle can be applied to all commandments. God literally says that we can test him. We can experiement and see if he will open the windows of heaven and shower those blessings down. I have truly learned that this is the method we change for good because I have been able to change through applying this principle.
Paul is improving a ton. My companion thought of a Mormon message to share with him about a man who lived a similar lifestyle to Paul's and how he really changed through learning/living the principles of the gospel. He really felt like he wanted to be like that man and change some of the things he does on a regular basis. He feels the guilt that comes from sin. I have never wanted to help someone more than this man. He can really make the change. I have so much faith in him. I really believe he can change because he is putting in the effort to read the scriptures. I think that through doing this and then making a concerted to come to church he will make the changes necessary to get baptized.
Sister Zhang is also doing really well and has improved drastically. A member gave her a children's book of the Book of Mormon and she has just fell in love with reading it. She really is starting to understand the stories and consequently is learned the gospel at the same time. She can now picture the stories in her mind and has a lot more context to it all. She has almost completely given up tea and coffee and is set on making her Feb. 14th baptismal date! We are so excited to see her progress towards baptism. God really loves this woman a lot.
Gene also has decided to do her best to quit smoking. she really wants to improve the quality of her life and she feels God's hand in it all. She has been a little unuder the weather but is reading the Book of Mormon and lesson pamphlets that we have given her. She also loves coming to church which is always the hardest part. We have some plans to get the relief society more involved in her progress. She is also set on her baptismal date Feb 14th. I really love helping people improve their lives and understand the love of God has for them. It makes being a missionary so rewarding when you can see people start to understand this principle. :)
Sister Liu is also improving. We ate dinner with her and shared with her the Plan of Salvation. She has tons of questions which is a great thing. Taiwanese people a lot of the time are to shy or polite to ask questions but she is full of them. Makes teaching really exciting to be honest. We are hoping she can find time to start coming to church on a frequent basis. She is starting to understand the Book of Mormon more though.
I feel really blessed to be honest. God is helping me a keep the goals that I have set and change bad habits. I have seen so many changes in my heart over the past 6 months. Especially the past little while. I have been reading three General Conference talks everyday and it is helping get the vision of what our apostles and prophets want us to be doing with our lives. I have started to compile a list of all of the invites that were given by the apostles and prophets. There are so many! If we figure out how to keep every single one I believe that is the way we can start to really become more closer to God. I've also decided that I need to study the lives of the prophets and pattern my life after theirs. Easier said than done.
My last companion became the missions new AP. haha He had no idea that it was coming. :)
Have a great week!
Elder Meeks
